TOKYO, Oct 22, 2024 -- OKI (TOKYO: 6703) recently received an order to produce units for satellites developed by Astroscale Japan Inc. (“Astroscale Japan”), a subsidiary of Astroscale Holdings Inc. (“Astroscale”), a market leader in satellite servicing and long-term orbital sustainability across all orbits. After evaluating evaluation samples and test samples, OKI will deliver the units in stages for demonstration.
OKI has a solid track record in delivering products and services for a wide range of space equipment through its “space quality” manufacturing services (EMS), including printed circuit boards (PCBs) certified according to the seven Appendices of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) Parts Specifications, as well as the design and manufacture of key components such as cables, simulations at the equipment design stage, screening and process diagnosis of adopted parts, equipment reliability evaluation and failure analysis, PCB mounting (soldering and resin sealing), and unit assembly.
With this order, OKI will provide Astroscale Japan with a steady supply of high-quality products from its production bases in Japan, backed by space-quality production technology and a proven production track record in ensuring stable, normal operations in the harsh space environment. OKI will draw on its production resources to be able to respond flexibly to increased demand, modifications, and repairs. At the same time, OKI will bolster its track record and production expertise in the growing space sector to expand its EMS business in the future.
Dedicated to safe and sustainable space development, Astroscale is a global leader in on-orbit services. The company offers diverse and innovative on-orbit service solutions, including satellite life extension, observation and inspection of faulty equipment and objects, removal of expired satellites to prevent debris generation, and removal of existing debris. Since March 2021, Astroscale has demonstrated its on-orbit rendezvous and proximity operation (RPO) technologies via the ELSA-d and ADRAS-J missions, establishing itself as a leader in the field of on-orbit services. Astroscale spacecraft have been selected for pioneering missions with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), US Space Force, European Space Agency (ESA), UK Space Agency (UKSA), and Eutelsat OneWeb. With more satellite operators adopting on-orbit services for periodic inspection, relocation, removal, and life extension, the possibilities for a circular space economy are expanding, opening up a more sustainable future for space. Astroscale has its head office and R&D center in Japan and operates globally with offices in the UK, US, France, and Israel.
