OKI Releases Social and Environmental Report 2012
TOKYO, October 1, 2012 -- OKI (TOKYO: 6703) today released its "Social and Environmental Report 2012" in both English and Chinese language versions. The English report describes environmental protection efforts and CSR activities undertaken by the OKI Group in the preceding fiscal year (ended March 2012). It is scheduled to be published in PDF format on the OKI website (http://www.oki.com/en/eco/csr_eco/2012/) at noon.
"OKI has published its ‘Social and Environmental Report’ since 2009," says Hisao Suzuki, Executive Vice President, overlooking OKI's CSR Division. "This document integrates the Environmental Report, published since 1999, and the Social Responsibility Report, published since 2005. Covering seven key CSR priority themes, the ‘Social and Environmental Report’ concisely communicates the status of corporate activities by addressing key points under each theme and highlighting achievements over the past fiscal year. The website also discusses OKI policies, systems, and other detailed information for each theme as well as core issues addressed by ISO 26000, the international standard addressing social responsibilities. The website provides a table comparing ISO 26000 and OKI Group activities."
A section entitled "Meeting our CSR commitments" covers the OKI Group Environmental Vision 2020 formulated in April 2012, as well as four themes important for the OKI Group. These are also areas of interest for stakeholders and the general public.
The OKI Group will continue to incorporate the voices of its stakeholders into the content of this report as part of its efforts to seek the bonds of trust established between stakeholders and the company.
Outlined below are highlights of the Social and Environmental Report 2012:
Special Features: Meeting our CSR Commitments
- Providing People with Safe and Secure Social Infrastructures
OKI seeks to advance civil safety through wireless and switching technologies in the field of fire and disaster management. Through digital disaster prevention administrative radio systems and effective digital fire command systems, OKI will continue to prepare for future potential large-scale disasters and pursue efforts that maintain the safety and security of key societal infrastructures, incorporating experiences gained during the Great East Japan Earthquake.
- Formulating OKI Group Environmental Vision 2020 for Future Generation
In April 2012, the OKI Group formulated OKI Group Environmental Vision 2020, which maps the direction of Group environmental management. OKI sets targets for 2020 in four areas—Realization of a low-carbon society; Prevention of pollution; Resource circulation; and Biodiversity conservation—and has set about actively working to achieve the targets set.
- Contributing to the Sustainable Development of the Countries and Regions in which we Operate
OKI manages quality, environmental conservation, and occupational health and safety at all its production sites to contribute to the countries and regions in which OKI operates. It also seeks to promote open lines of communication with OKI employees and local communities. Although flooding in Thailand in FY11 affected OKI's printer manufacturing facilities, domestic and international Group companies pooled their efforts to supply products, thereby achieving an earlier-than-projected recovery.
- Providing Customers with Sophisticated and Secure Information Security
While providing cloud services that incorporate all due measures to ensure information security, OKI has also strengthened its own information security systems in the area of smartphones. In FY11, OKI enhanced measures against cyber attacks while concurrently undertaking concerted inspections and educational efforts to instill still greater awareness of various security issues.
Status of activities in areas of focus
In this report, OKI explains activities and achievements on the following seven priority themes: full compliance with laws and regulations; information security; improvements in customer satisfaction; good communication with shareholders and investors; respect for employees; social contributions; and consideration for the environment. For each priority theme, the report comments on focal points and achievements for fiscal year 2010, as well as focal points for the fiscal year ending March 2012, based on actual OKI achievements. Through detailed examples, the report also seeks to clarify OKI's overall CSR direction for its readers. The environmental conservation section—one of the seven priority themes—concludes with a reference section entitled "Detailed Data." This section provides in-depth data and statistical information to ensure that the information reported is comprehensive.
