OKI win Managed Print Services Contract into World's Largest Online Bike Store in Ireland

At Chain Reaction Cycles

TOKYO, March 14, 2012 -- OKI Data Corporation, an OKI Group company specializing in the printer business, announces that OKI Systems Ireland has won a significant Managed Print Services contract with the world's largest online bike store, Chain Reaction Cycles (CRC). Under the agreement, OKI will analyze CRC's overall printing operations and provide solutions for the company's managed print services. By introducing a print control system and optimizing printer placement, the two companies expect these measures to boost security and cut current annual total print costs by some 28%.

CRC has an intensive requirement for printing solutions in general office, marketing, and dispatch. Of these, the latter area typically supports the highest print volumes, carrying out around four million prints a year in total and at peak times having the ability to dispatch up to 24 orders per minute. CRC's print fleet had grown organically on an ‘as needed’ basis with multiple brands, support contracts and different types of toner. The approach was expensive, inefficient and was failing to support enhanced business productivity.

ES4131

The company sought advice on the best approach from IT service partner, EOS Systems, who in turn recommended a managed print service (MPS) from OKI. Following an audit and consultation, OKI installed a consolidated fleet of 84 devices, consisting of A4 color LED printers, ES5430 and A4 monochrome LED printers, ES4131 amongst others which has proven to bring greater convenience, reduced costs, better budgetary control and enhanced business agility. Proprietary software issues alerts to replace consumables, allowing the company to plan the purchase and replacement of consumables and eliminating unexpected shortages in stocks of consumables.

"Standardizing on OKI and adopting an MPS approach has made the whole process of delivering IT support a lot easier for us," says Paddy Devine, ICT Infrastructure Manager at CRC. "The MPS approach provides visibility into the printing process, enabling us to monitor the overall number of prints and the departmental split, showing where volumes are high, and enabling us to make appropriate adjustments as and when required. We estimate it will save us 28% on our annual print costs." Typically, when you make changes you expect some criticism. In this case, the criticism was minimal - a tribute both to the quality of printers and the approach to printing we have taken."

Other benefits include reduced paper waste and improved environmental practices due to the introduction of duplex printing, better budget planning with spread fixed payments, and outsourced remote management of service and consumables through web-based monitoring software. And critically, the printers themselves have proved extremely reliable since implementation.
