TOKYO, November 30, 2009 -- OKI Networks Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of OKI Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703), that designs and manufactures telecommunication products, today announced a launch of a new product for micro and small enterprises(*1): "IPstage® 1000", an all-in-one Smart Telephony Box that is equipped with a key telephone system and a broadband router. Initially, the company plans to focus on Japan, Spain and Italy, countries where it already sells key telephone systems.

OKI Networks has been proposing a new communication style in order to deliver unified communication(*2) to its customers. Today, it has succeeded in developing the next generation product for businesses, "IPstage 1000" - the latest addition to its IPstage Series(*3), based on its knowledge and experience in offering IP telephony products to organizations ranging from small-to-medium sized offices to large enterprises, as well as its expertise in providing VoIP router products to telecom carriers' consumer users in Japan.

"IPstage 1000" enables typical business networks, incorporating key telephone systems, the Internet and printers, to be set up with ease. This allows organizations to get 'up and running' immediately when new offices are opened, or new units or teams are rolled out. In addition, by utilizing various features of the system, businesses can drive expansion; for example, by using IP phone services, they can reduce the tele-communication fees for sales activities, while also facilitating a broad range of different methods to facilitate communication between partners.

Historically, extensive technical expertise and in-depth knowledge have been required when installing and configuring key telephone systems for business. However, "IPstage 1000" incorporates router know-how, which enables users to set up and operate key telephone systems and routers without technical knowledge. The main device is the industry's smallest in class, a compact A4 size, and it can be installed anywhere within the office due to its silent and energy-efficient design. Since it is compliant with various IP phone services, the product enables communication costs to be reduced and can also be used for 'telework', a new working style for the IT era. In addition, it offers a new communication environment, made possible with IP, as it can incorporate up to 30(*4) IP extension telephones(*5), such as software phones and the newly released IP multi keytelephone designed exclusively for "IPstage 1000".

"The "IPstage 1000" enables network environments to be configured easily without special technical expertise and in turn, saves time. We believe it will help businesses improve management productivity and increase their competitive edge," said Masasuke Kishi, President of OKI Networks. "As a leader in the field of IP phones, OKI will continue to leverage its comprehensive expertise together with technical knowledge it has garnered over the years, with a focus on offering added-value communication style."

OKI Networks will continue to enhance the features of "IPstage1000" and in turn, contribute to delivering communication quality that clearly meets customers' requirements to enhance convenience, and reduce communication costs.

Release summary

All-in-one key telephone system and router features - "IPstage 1000" can be used immediately.

"IPstage 1000" is equipped with extensive key telephone system features. It has a built-in router function to connect to the Internet etc., which enables the required business communications and a network environment to be configured using one main device only. Moreover, when installing the product, simple basic data can be set according to the setup screen on the Web browser. The smart telephony box's "auto provisioning"(*6) function allows the product to be used through a LAN cable connection between the IP phone and the main device. Calls can be forwarded by individual users by utilizing the Web browser on the "user portal.(*7)

Compact A4 size, realizing space and energy savings.

The product is the industry's smallest in class, A4 size. It is 49mm thick, which allows for a slim chassis. It can be placed anywhere in the office - vertically, horizontally or hung on a wall. The body is a 'chic' black color. In addition, the product helps to reduce environmental impact through space and energy savings, made possible by the compact "all-in-one" key telephone system and router design.

Works flexibly for teleworkers.

A virtual in-house LAN that connects a telework environment and office by utilizing VPN route functionality can be established. This enables homeworkers and mobile workers to hold televison conference calls with staff at the office by using "IPstage Com@WILL® Software Phone", offering a communication style equivalent to being in the same office. In a micro and small office environment, employees tend to be offsite frequently so by using the product's voicemail function (50 hour standard recording time) which is as convenient as an answering machine, they can ensure that business opportunities are not missed.

A new IP multi keytelephone to be exclusively used for "IPstage 1000" will also be launched.

This is a new phone that aligns with the business needs of micro and small office workers' needs and focuses both on usability and design. Flexible key functions can be set up easily from the Web browser. Typically, a total of ten keys are required on phones used in micro and small offices. In line with this, the new IP multi keytelephone has ten keys that are ideally located and enable easy use of the phone, without impacting on the overall 'look and feel' of the design. An attachment is provided, enabling the product to be hung on a wall which helps to save office space. In addition, features that meet basic customer requirements such as headset jack, PC port, and handsfree function are offered as a standard.
