OKI Unveils "ATM-Recycler G7", a Cash Recycling ATM for the Worldwide Market
Full-scale entry into the European and American markets with ATMs that can handle multiple currencies

TOKYO, November 25, 2009 -- OKI Electric Industry (TSE: 6703) today announced it has developed "ATM-Recycler G7", a cash recycling ATM for the worldwide market that enables banknotes from multiple currencies to be handled by a single ATM.
In addition to OKI's achievements as a leading industry expert on ATMs deployed in the Japanese market, it has already gained a strong sales track-record in other Asian markets including China and Korea. By adding "ATM-Recycler G7" to its product portfolio, OKI plans to start selling ATMs to the wider market. Shipments and sales are scheduled in March 2010, starting with the Chinese market.
In recent years, the replacement of cash dispensers with cash recycling ATMs, which allow banknotes to be deposited, has increased, not only in Japan but also in China, Korea and other parts of Asia. OKI has launched a multifunctional ATM, "ATM 21S" and a space-saving "ATM21SX" for these markets and has achieved some significant successes.
In line with this growing demand in Asian markets, demand for cash recycling ATMs has also been increasing in Europe and the Americas and it is expected that the replacement process will accelerate. To capitalize on this market trend, OKI has developed a cash recycling ATM, "ATM-Recycler G7", which enables banknotes of multiple currencies to be handled within one ATM and it is targeting the new product at financial institutions and convenience store markets worldwide.
"OKI has developed "ATM-Recycler G7" - a high-performance, high-quality, and high-productivity cash recycling ATM, based on its long experience and extensive achievements in the Japanese, Chinese and Korean markets." says Takao Hiramoto, Executive Officer and General Manager of Systems Hardware Business Division at OKI. "OKI plans to become a top cash recycling ATM vendor as well as helping to improve their business efficiency by proactively targeting the product at financial institutions and convenience stores."

Further technical information
- Handling with banknotes of multiple currencies around the world
Depending on the country, banknotes come in different sizes and designs, and have different levels of associated security information, which is necessary to prevent banknote counterfeit. "ATM-Recycler G7" adopts a line form(*2) instead of a spot form(*2) for the sensor which reads this information. This enables precise reading of security information, (located in different places on the note depending on the country of origin), with the same banknote recognition unit. In addition, with the newly developed banknote recycling module, the ATM can handle banknotes of different sizes. As a result, it can also manage banknotes from multiple currencies simply by altering the banknote recognition software, thus eliminating the need to change the hardware. The banknote recognition software can also correspond to multiple currencies simultaneously, enabling currency exchanges to take place.
OKI has plans in place to ensure that "ATM-Recycler G7" is compatible with European Central Bank's banknote recycling framework for Euro banknotes, ECB Article 6.
- High performance and reliable new banknote recycliing module
OKI has newly developed a part that switches banknote transportation direction which has been integrated with the banknote recycling module. This enables the transportation route of the banknotes to be optimized. In turn, this results in a reduction in banknote route length of 45% compared to the conventional route. In addition, the number of operational sites has been reduced.
For this reason, further underlining the quality of banknote transporter unit, the time required to process banknotes has been reduced. In addition, since the visibility of the remaining banknotes has been improved, their whereabouts can be easily pinpointed even when banknotes are left behind in the unit. This results in an ATM that is easy to maintain.
- High capacity
"ATM-Recycler G7" can be equipped with a maximum of five recycling cassettes that can hold up to 3,000 banknotes(*3) and two multi-purpose cassettes that can hold up to 600 banknotes, depending on purpose - storing rejected banknotes, retracted banknotes and counterfeit banknotes – for example. This enables the whole system to hold up to the industry maximum number of 16,200 banknotes.
- Low energy consumption and reduced weight
Since the banknote transporter route has been shortened, there are less load on the driving parts. As a result, energy consumption during operation is reduced. Moreover, the banknote recycling module and banknote recognition unit have their own low energy modes, cutting down power consumption and enabling low energy consumption during stand-by. In addition to the shortened banknote transporter route, the ATM's weight has been reduced by re-examining the structure of each unit.
- High quality
OKI manufactures electronic parts such as sensors and motors as well as main parts for ATMs such as power units, control units, banknote recycling modules and banknote recognition units. For this reason, the overall quality of the device, from components to the final product, can be centralized, realizing a high quality ATM.
- Security features
"ATM-Recycler G7" has enhanced security features over and above those offered by conventional OKI's ATMs. It is equipped with a cover over the personal identification number (PIN) input panel as standard which prevents people from viewing the number. It is also equipped with a uniquely formed cards slot to prevent card information theft (skimming), as well as a sensor to detect parts used to skim card information, usually located at the card insert module.

Glossary/Notes
- *1 :ECB Article 6
Promoted by the European Central Bank, a policy regarding the circulation of Euro banknotes. Vendors need to conform to this policy when offering cash recycling functionality in Europe.
- *2 :Spot form/Line form
Conventional models use a spot form sensor that partially reads the security information on each banknote. "ATM-Recycler G7" incorporates a line form sensor that reads the entire banknote in order to ensure that security information on banknotes from multiple different currencies can be correctly verified.
- *3 :"ATM-Recycler G7" capacity
3,000 is the maximum number of banknotes held when it is set to dispense. When recycling, the system is capable of holding up to 2,750 banknotes as long as it is set to "deposit"
