OKI Power Tech Starts Full-scale Production of Power Supply Units in Thailand
Production capacity being increased to respond to the growing demand for office equipment

First shipment from new production site in Thailand
(September 2008)
TOKYO, October 30, 2008 -- Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703) and Oki Power Tech Co., Ltd., an OKI Group company developing and manufacturing power supply units, today announced that OKI Power Tech has established a manufacturing site in Lamphun, a city in northern Thailand, to increase its capacity for power supply unit production.
The new site is located in a section of the Thailand plant of OKI Data, which is OKI's subsidiary in charge of the printer business. With 45 employees, OKI Power Tech made its first shipment in September 2008, after developing a production line for printer power supply units, and started full-scale production in October. From January 2009, in addition to current products, OKI Power Tech plans to manufacture power supply units for non-printer office equipment and FA equipment. In April 2009, the company will increase its production capacity to 300,000 units per year with two production lines and a total of 100 employees.
"We are pleased to establish our first direct overseas site in Thailand for manufacturing power supply units. By expanding production capacity, we will respond to the growing demand for office equipment that we are experiencing in Japan and other Asian countries," said Akira Ugawa, President of OKI Power Tech. "We will be increasing our sales not only through OKI Group companies, but also through sales to third parties."
Such sales will be coming from OKI Power Tech's revolutionary product, which is an industry-first amorphous power supply unit using powdered amorphous material for the core of the switching transformer. When this product is used in a printer power supply unit, power conversion efficiency increases by 10-20%, power consumption in the standby mode is reduced by 50%, and size is reduced to 25%.
In addition to its conventional power supply units, OKI Power Tech will offer this highly efficient, small, and low power consumption amorphous power supply unit to the worldwide market including China, U.S.A., and Europe. OKI Power Tech's power supply units will be used in AC/DC adapters and office equipment such as computers, displays, printers, facsimiles, copiers, scanners, and multifunction printers.
