OKI Forms OKI-CSIRT to Prepare for Computer Security Incidents
Now ready to respond quickly to sophisticated incidents
TOKYO, September 4, 2008 -- Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703) today announced it has formed an internal Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT)(*1), the OKI-CSIRT, to enhance its prevention measures against computer security incidents, and has also become a member of Nippon CSIRT Association(*2). Activities of OKI-CSIRT include, sharing information and collaborating with other CSIRTs in Japan, conducting security incident prevention activities, and responding quickly when such incidents occur.
OKI Group has already implemented various security measures to protect its network and its employees from computer crimes and attacks. However, there were areas where conventional security measures could not fully prevent the attacks and computer crimes, and therefore OKI decided to form OKI-CSIRT as an organization dedicated to computer security, which consists of engineers from OKI and its affiliated company, OKI Network Integration(*3).
OKI-CSIRT sought advice from the JPCERT Coordination Center(*4) on the functions the team will provide, on the processes to employ when a security incident occurs, and on how to establish an effective organization. As a result, OKI established OKI-CSIRT to effectively enhance protection for computer crimes and attacks. Through the organization, OKI aims to improve the Group's computer security as well as contribute to provide safe and reliable products, offering peace of mind to its customers.
Eventually, OKI also aims to establish a structure to support customers in dealing with and preferably preventing security incidents.
