OKI Develops Video Correction LSI with Built-in Frame Memory for Monitoring Cameras
Significantly improves video quality under low light

Summary and features of ML87V21072
OKI offers a highly sophisticated 3D noise reduction system with frame, field and line correlation through use of a FIFO frame memory in the ML87V21072. Furthermore, with a built-in space filter with edge compensation, the LSI reduces high-pass noise that could not be reduced with 3D noise reduction alone. Because the LSI has a function to determine whether the video is a still picture or a moving video, it can apply stronger noise reduction for still pictures while limiting afterimage in video applications. The LSI includes a function to automatically apply brightness gain correction and color correction after applying noise reduction.
The input interface is compatible with ITU-R BT.656, 510H, 760H CCD sampling, and the output interface is compatible with ITU-R BT.656, 510H, 760H. The LSI is also compatible with analog composite signal and S-video signal through its built-in video encoder, enabling it to directly connect with DSP circuits in CCD image sensor applications.
The ML87V21072 includes function to output high-quality pictures without jaggy lines, thus maximizing the built-in memory, and 2:2 pull-down output for videos and video flip vertical output.
The noise reduction function in ML87V21072 offers high-quality videos and helps to compress video when using MPEG-4. By first applying noise reduction to a video using ML87V21072, and then compressing it with an MPEG-4 encoder LSI, such as OKI's ML86410, the file size can be reduced to approximately one-fifth the size of the original file. By utilizing this LSI in a DVR, one can achieve recording time approximately 5 times longer than with conventional models. In addition, in a MPEG-4 network camera, the chip can deliver high-quality video at a low bit rate.
The ML87V21072 comes in two package sizes: 90pin BGA(6.4mm x 10mm) and 100-pin TQFP(14mm x 14mm). The smaller 90pin BGA is suitable for inclusion on standard boards for monitoring camera modules.
