OKI Expands Production of Driver LSI for Full High-definition LCD TVs in Thailand
Will respond to rapidly increasing demand by producing 15 million LSIs per month
Tokyo, Japan, June 11, 2007 --Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703) today announced it will enhance production at its Thailand plant of driver LSIs for LCD panels. To respond to the rapidly expanding demand of full high-definition LCD TVs, starting this summer, OKI will expand its production of driver LSIs from 10 million per month to 15 million.
"To respond to the demands for HD LCD TVs, Oki (Thailand) Co., Ltd. installed new equipment to enhance its LSI production line, succeeding in increasing its production capability by 50%," said Takaki Yamada, President of Silicon Microdevice Company at Oki Electric Industry. "OKI will continue to provide driver LSIs to customers around the world, by effectively utilizing our production supply chain management. This will apply to Oki Thailand where assembly and testing are done, as well as to plants in Korea, Taiwan and Japan."
Within this fiscal year, OKI also plans to expand Oki Thailand's capabilities to develop OKI's latest technologies such as super fine pitch products. By making this happen, OKI will be able to achieve coherently development and manufacturing of driver LSI products at Oki Thailand, enabling OKI to start up volume production in a short period of time.
