OKI Provides Samples for 10Gbit/s Optical Receiver Module

10G ROSA Module
Tokyo, Japan, March 13, 2007 -- Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703) today announced it has developed two models of ROSA(Receiver Optical Sub Assembly)-type optical receiver modules. These modules are for use in XMD-MSA (10Gbit/s Miniature Device Multi Source Agreement) applications that are compliant with the small transceiver XFP (10Gbit/s small Form-factor Pluggable) used to establish high-speed LAN and metropolitan area networks. OKI will offer samples starting today.
With the expanding volume of data transmission over the Internet, optical receivers and transmitters that are compliant with XFP are being introduced, which is an industry standard for 10Gb optical transmission over long distance backbone and interim distance in metropolitan areas. In order to easily expand the transmission capability while using existing equipment, a small-receptacle reception module is required to be installed into the transmission system easily.
"We have been providing the widely used optical receiver modules compliant with MSA for surface mounted packaging-type 10Gbit optical receivers. However, with the expected increase in demand for a ROSA-type receiver, we developed the ROSA-type receiver module for XMD-MSA compliant with XFP," said Masayuki Tsuboi, President of Optical Component Company at Oki Electric Industry. "Samples of this receiver will be provided worldwide and during the fiscal year ending March 2008, we aim to sell 60 thousand of these two modules by promoting them for use in various kinds of optical transmission equipment."
OKI's 10Gb ROSA-type receiver module will be displayed at OKI's booth (#3351) at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference & Exposition and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (OFC/NFOE2007) which will be held from March 27th to 29th at Anaheim, California.
