OKI Enhances Product Lineup for Carrier-grade Communication Server Compliant with Next Generation Networks

Enables users to build FMC service network with CenterStage® NX5000 Series

CenterStage NX5000 R2

Tokyo, Japan, November 28, 2006 -- Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703) announced it has added three new models to its telecom-carrier-grade communication server CenterStage® NX5000 Series. The new models, listed below, will be introduced in the Japanese market from December 2006.

  • CenterStage NX5000 R2: Session control server compliant with IMS. Supports S-CSCF/I-CSCF functions to enable FMC (Fixed Mobile Convergence) and other multimedia services for NGN (Next Generation Network).
  • CenterStage NX5100: SIP proxy server compliant with IMS. Supports P-CSCF functions.
  • CenterStage NX5200: Media gateway control server compliant with IMS that supports MGCF functions.

Telecom carriers are shifting their fixed and mobile networks to IP, aiming to converge these networks to provide new services such as fixed mobile convergence (FMC) and to reduce network costs. In order to prepare for larger data communication traffic over IP networks, carriers are also demanding communication servers with high performance as well as high reliability in NGN, which will become the carrier's new network infrastructure to take place of current PSTNs.

"We believe these new latest models will enable telecom carriers to reduce both operating costs and the time required to provide services to end users. There is no need for carriers to deploy the servers for fixed and wireless services separately as they had to do before," said Kichiro Akino, President of Network Systems Company at Oki Electric Industry. "The three new models in OKI's CenterStage NX5000 Series include functions such as a fixed IP telephony server and an IMS function which enables the simultaneous offering of services to both fixed and wireless IP phones."

OKI has been providing CenterStage NX5000 carrier-grade communication servers to the Japanese market since March 2006. This server is known for its world-class performance of 1 million BHCA per server that suits the NGN, its large capacity holding 800 thousand subscribers on a single server, and its high reliability offering a level equivalent to central office switching systems. The new models in the CenterStage NX5000 Series exceed the functionality of previous models and include new capability compliant with the IMS standards.

The three models are equipped with OKI's SAF-Compliant middleware "CenterStage HAPF" that enables non-stop service operation with 99.999% of availability over general-purpose servers. HAPF dramatically improves availability of the platform by its unique functions such as rapid switching between on a duplex servers and on-line software upgrade.

OKI will exhibit the NX5000 R2 at its booth (8001-8002) at the ITU Telecom World 2006, which will be held in Hong Kong from December 4 to the 8. The website for NX5000 will open from December 4 at the following URL:http://www.oki.com/en/CenterStage.
