Oki Electric Unveils Com@WILL® Series Release 6
Enables high-definition video with softphones, and offers enhanced voice message and phone recording functions
Tokyo, Japan, September 11, 2006 -- Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703) today unveiled its new lineup for Com@WILL® Series, application software that connects business applications and communication equipment through Oki's IP telephony server, IP CONVERGENCE® Server SS9100(*1). The company is releasing the new version as "Com@WILL Series Release 6," which includes Com@WILL Softphone(*2), which is equipped with Oki's high-quality video codec, eVideo(*3), thus offering high-definition video in addition to high voice quality. This codec significantly improves video quality when communicating via video phone and video conferencing.
As softphones enable users to communicate in a manner that suits their facility and work style, many companies have been installing softphones. Oki's Com@WILL Softphone offers easy installation without any expensive conference system, and users can easily establish remote video conference calls at their desk, when the number of participants is limited. Users can also invite the third or fourth person during their conference calls.
"Demand for higher voice and video quality softphones have been increasing, as the number of softphone users increases. With our eSound(*4) technology, our Com@WILL softphone offered much higher voice quality than normal phones, but we now include our eVideo technology into Com@WILL Softphones to significantly improve video quality," said Masashi Tsuboi, President of IP Systems Company at Oki Electric. "This eVideo codec enables stable video transmission on an IP network thanks to its video delivery technology that can transmit data over a low bandwidth network. Users can now enjoy voice and video conversation with a realistic sensation."
In addition, Oki enhanced functions are included for voice mail, phone recording and address book sharing among terminals. Going forward, Oki plans to connect Com@WILL Softphone with video conference systems, which will enable softphone users to participate in remote video conferences.
