Oki Unveils H.264 Compliant OKI MediaServer V6
Enables full-scale video delivery using half the bandwidth

Tokyo, Japan, October 31, 2006 -- Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703) today unveiled OKI MediaServer V6, an integrated video delivery platform compliant with H.264, a video compression standard. This latest model, targeting the Japanese market, enables users to access video delivery using half or less bandwidth than conventional systems.

While the efficiency of video compression rate in H.264 is twice or three times higher than that of MPEG-2, the amount of calculation is much higher, which takes more time to process. Thus, it had been difficult to use H.264 in video delivery services for home use. Because this latest OKI MediaServer is compliant with H.264, it can offer the same video quality as TV broadcasts while being sent over an IP and uses only half to one-third the communication bandwidth used by MPEG-2. Oki succeeded in introducing H.264 in its products including video content compression encoder, video delivery center server, and software player. Users can enjoy a high-quality video on a 200-300 inch screen using half or less bandwidth than with conventional types.
These products are equipped with OKI's eVideo, a video processing technology that enables high video quality and low latency over IP networks, and DRM to enable high-speed encryption for safe video delivery.
