Oki Electric Donates New Building to an Elementary School in Shanxi, China

The new two-story building of Fu Jia Pan Primary School

Beijing China, June 12, 2006 -- Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703) today announced it has supported the renovation project for Fu Jia Pan Primary School in Yu Lin County, Shanxi Province, China. This was a joint project with Oki Electric and five of its local companies(*1), as the "Special Plan Project" organized by Foster Parents Plan Japan(*2). After a year of construction, the completion ceremony of the new two-story building and renovation of existing classrooms was held on June 8, 2006.

"We consider China not only as an attractive market, but as an important base for Oki's manufacturing and sales activities. We donate this building for Fu Jia Pan Primary School responding to a strong need to improve their environment, and as Oki's social contribution to the local community and the country in which Oki has many stakeholders," said Naoki Sato, Senior Vice President overlooking Oki's corporate philanthropy activities. "We also took this as an opportunity to mark the 125th anniversary of the founding of Oki Electric, which is the second contribution since the establishment of a new building for An She Cun Primary School in Chun Hua County, for the 120th anniversary."

Fu Jia Pan Primary School was established in 1952, and now has 200 students from preschool to sixth grade. The school district includes five villages (population of 1,948 and 185 households). In addition to constructing a new building and renovating classrooms, Oki increased the number of bathrooms, built school gates and fences, provided the premises with water fountains and provided textbooks and books.
Those who attended the ceremony include the Headmaster and other members from the Fu Jia Pan School Development Committee, representatives of the Yu He Mao Township, and the Yu Lin County Women's Associations.

"To see the children delighted with the new building filled me with emotion. We look forward for these children to play an important role in supporting the development of China, by learning in a good environment," commented Sato after the ceremony.
