Oki Electric and KDDI Team-up to Deploy Mobile Solutions for Enterprises
Collaboration based on KDDI's Wireless LAN Business Handset, E02SA
Tokyo, Japan, May 25, 2006 -- Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703) and KDDI Corporation (TSE: 9433) today announced an agreement to collaborate in providing mobile solutions for the enterprise market using E02SA, KDDI's "au" mobile phone equipped with wireless LAN functionality. Based on this agreement, Oki will provide mobile solutions for enterprises in Japan, starting October 2006.
Private IP Centrex(*1) systems are becoming popular among Japanese enterprises, with a high interest in wireless LAN-based mobile Centrex(*2) systems. Oki has been providing its IP telephony server, the IP CONVERGENCE® Server SS9100 to enterprise customers for their IP Centrex and mobile Centrex systems. By including KDDI's E02SA in to its lineup, enterprise users will now be able to seamlessly connect to PSTNs (mobile phone networks) and private networks (LANs) using a single handset, which will flexibly provide various enterprise needs.
KDDI's E02SA, planned for launch in July 2006, enables enterprise users to build an efficient network with a single handset, as it functions as a VoIP extension phone equipped with wireless LAN in the office, as well as an "au" mobile phone outside the office. E02SA is compliant with IEEE802.1b, the wireless LAN standard, as well as with IEEE802.11g and IEEE802.11e for the quality of service (QoS) control function in the wireless area, thus enabling high-speed and high voice quality.
In addition to its SS9100, Oki also provides MWINS® BR2100 Series, a wireless LAN access point for VoIP, which is compliant with E02SA's wireless LAN standards. By connecting MWINS with E02SA, users can achieve a high voice quality and an affordable communication environment.
Going forward, KDDI and Oki will jointly provide mobile solutions using E02SA handsets, which will give enterprises a cost-effective means of achieving various IT strategies. The two companies will work to create value-added services that enable innovation in many business environments, which will help enhance their customers' competitive edge and improve their business efficiency.
