Oki Electric Launches IP CONVERGENCE® Server SS9100 Release 5, a Large Scale IP Telephony Server with 20 Thousand Ports

Tokyo, Japan, March 16, 2006 -- Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703) today announced the launch of "IP CONVERGENCE® Server SS9100 Release 5" (SS9100 R5), the latest model in its IP telephony server product line up. The SS9100 R5 increases line capacity up to 20 thousand lines, and will be available to the Japanese market from March 20, 2006.

Oki launched its first SS9100, an IP telephony server that seamlessly links IP-PBX functions and business applications on Microsoft.NET, in February 2004 and since then has been increasing the functions offered in this line and expanding the peripherals and terminal lineups. Oki was the first in Japan to launch distributed access points for Voice over Wireless LAN, the MWINS™ BR2100 Series, thus enabling low cost mobile Centrex systems(*1), and achieving easier and more comfortable conversations by connecting business applications to telecommunications through the high-function softphone, Com@WILL® Softphone.

"Our SS9100 has been known for its ability to easily establish a private IP Centrex system that can control multiple locations with a single server," said Masashi Tsuboi, President of IP Systems Company at Oki Electric. "Responding to market needs for larger scale systems, as the advantage is more significant with such systems, we developed the SS9100 R5, which we believe will contribute as an IT management strategy solution that can improve our customers' productivity and increase their competitive edge."

The SS9100 significantly reduces PBX management costs, which were previously necessary at each location, and costs for changing telephone facilities whenever personnel relocations and layout changes occurred. The newly developed SS9100 R5 is a large-scale system based on several servers, which increases the line capacity for each system from 5,000 ports to 20,000 ports. The SS9100 R5 achieves a large-scale Centrex structure by mutually connecting servers that connect within each server. It can be centralized at acenter or distributed to each location, establishing a risk dispersion structure. The SS9100 R5 can also centralize operation and maintenance as it integrates the interfaces maintenance and operation equipment.

The new IP multifunctional phone, "MKT-IP-30DKW," is added to the lineup as the main phone terminal for the SS9100. While its price has been kept the same as former models, new functions are added, including eSound(*2) (excellent sound technology), a phonebook, and display of the history of numbers dialed and received, thus making this a phone with excellent cost performance. SS9100 has always included PBX service functions to enable smooth migration from PBX to SS9100 without changing the operation style. Oki has included more functions in the SS9100 R5 to make a smoother migration by equipping long distance analog extensions and group allocation functions and increasing PBX-DID.

Oki also expanded the functions of its IP CONVERGENCE Server SS9100 Type M, unveiled in October 2005, providing the same service functions as the higher-end SS9100 models.
