Smaller equipment with improved flexibility and expandability

Tokyo, Japan, December 8, 2005 -- Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703) today announced it has added a compact encoder/decoder, the "VisualCast®-SS VBOX-S2," and a network type storage server, the "VisualCast-Network Recorder," to its remote video monitoring system, "VisualCast-SS." Starting today, Oki begins sales of this product to the government, local governments and airport facilities in Japan.
"As security systems such as video monitoring have become widely adopted, users are concerned about the size of such systems, which limits installation options, and the small amount of data storage in the equipment," said Yasukazu Hontama, President of Broadband Media Company at Oki Electric. "Responding to these user concerns, we made a new encoder/decoder that is much smaller compared to conventional systems and enables users to flexibly expand data storage."
The size of the VBOX-S2 is halved compared to the original VBOX-S, allowing users to install it anywhere, even in narrow places where it was difficult to install conventional encoder equipment. The new model also enables stable video transmission by utilizing the constant bit-rate method(*1) for its video distribution control and by improving video quality through higher performance video signal processing functionality. By inserting an optional memory card, video data can be stored on the VBOX-S2.
The Network Recorder is a terminal designed to receive, store, relay and distribute the video data received from the VBOX-S2. By installing the Network Recorder, users can store video anywhere on the network and can flexibly construct and expand systems to suit the intended application.
