A Plan to Establish a Large-scale System Connecting 18 Locations throughout Japan
Tokyo, Japan, December 19, 2005 -- Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703) today announced that Sunstar Inc., a leading manufacturer of oral care, cosmetics and health-promoting products in Japan, has adopted Oki's IP telephony server, "IP CONVERGENCE® Server SS9100" for their private IP Centrex system(*1). After installing the system in its headquarters, Sunstar plans to connect it to 18 locations, including affiliated companies, throughout Japan by 2006. System integration will be implemented by NTT West Corp.
Sunstar was looking for a system having expandability and flexibility, to prepare for the convergence of information and telecommunication, and also offering cost reduction through integration of the company's voice and data networks. The company selected Oki's SS9100 for its high voice quality, rich phone functions, and strong track record in establishing large-scale systems.
The SS9100 will be installed at Sunstar's headquarters in Osaka, Japan, to establish a private IP Centrex system that can centrally control phones and eliminate PBXs and VoIP gateways at each location, reducing equipment costs. Sunstar will also be able to utilize various functions at the headquarters from different locations, improving productivity throughout the company. As of December 2005, 700 IP multifunction phones and 400 analog-digital multifunction phones and faxes are operating at Sunstar. Plans to expand the system to other Sunstar locations with a total of 2000 terminals at 18 locations by 2006, thus achieving a large-scale private IP Centrex system.
Going forward, Oki plans to seamlessly connect this system with the FOMA Wireless LAN Dual Network Handsets(*2), enabling a Mobile IP Centrex system(*3) which will integrate Sunstar's video data, and also integrate voice and data on their WAN and LAN.
By providing IP telephony solutions based on SS9100, Oki Electric will continue to support its enterprise customers who are planning to improve their productivity and change their work styles.
