Tokyo, Japan, August 19, 2005 -- Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703) today announced that as a result of a strong earthquake hitting the Tohoku (northeastern) region of Japan on August 16, Miyagi Oki Electric Co, Ltd, a semiconductor manufacturing subsidiary, suspended production operations at its front-end semiconductor fabrication facility to check for any damage of manufacturing equipment. Since August 17, Miyagi Oki has been partially restarting operation with equipment in which proper operation has been confirmed, and today returned to full operation.
Immediately after reports of the earthquake, Oki established a task force led by Hironori Kitabayashi, Senior Executive Officer of Oki Electric, to assess the damage to the plant, and to coordinate repairs and other actions necessary to restore operations as quickly as possible. The task force initiated actions including debris removal, inspection, and repair activities. There were no injuries to employees or their families.
