Tokyo, Japan, June 16, 2005 -- Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703) today announced the launch of IP Telephony Voice Quality Monitoring Service V2, a full-time voice quality monitoring service for Oki's IP telephony server, IP CONVERGENCE® Server SS9100. This is the enhanced version of a service Oki has been providing to its VoIP gateway customers since February 2004. By adding a full-time voice quality monitoring function to the SS9100 system, starting July 2005, Oki will provide voice quality monitoring service to companies in Japan using private IP networks.
"We provide this service as the new high value-added service menu for our SS9100 service ware. We believe this new service enables our customers to use the SS9100-based private IP telephony system with great ease," said Masashi Tsuboi, President of the IP Systems Company at Oki Electric. "In addition to our abundant service wares for the enterprise-use SS9100 system, we will enhance service wares for higher demands and expand solutions to further increase our customers’ value."
The original IP Telephony Voice Quality Monitoring Service for VoIP gateways constantly monitors voice quality of enterprise IP telephones in use, and informs customers when failures or troubles are detected. While conventional systems required equipment dedicated to monitoring, Oki's system eliminated this burden by mounting measurement function onto the gateway and connecting to the server. This enables customers to constantly monitor delays and the total voice transmission quality (the R factor*1) between VoIP gateways.
The new IP Telephony Voice Quality Monitoring Service V2 enables users using private IP telephony systems in the office to monitor voice quality by adding the voice quality monitoring function to the SS9100 system. This service also works with Oki's Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) version enterprise-use VoIP gateways, providing voice quality monitoring service to companies shifting from existing telephone equipment such as PBXs and business phones to IP telephony systems.
By monitoring the changes in voice quality from network traffic fluctuation and changes in network structure, users can operate IP telephony system in a satisfactory manner. When voice quality is degraded, Oki also provides IP Telephony Voice Quality Evaluation Service to specify the cause of the drop and to provide consultation on improvement measurements. Oki plans to strengthen its service wares for SS9100 including system design, system construction, maintenance, operation, testing and education to better respond to its customer needs.
