Oki Establishes Semiconductor Marketing and Design Company in China
Tokyo, Japan, November 1, 2004 -- Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703) today announced it has established Oki Semiconductor Technology Shanghai Co., Ltd., a marketing and design company for semiconductors in Shanghai to expand its business in China. The new company, established October 15, 2004, starts operation today to become Oki's third semiconductor company in China, the eighth subsidiary for Oki group.
"We establish this new semiconductor company to increase sales and share in the Chinese market, where continuous growth is expected," said Akira Kamo, President of the Silicon Solutions Company at Oki Electric. "Because it is important to develop and design products that grasp customer needs accurately and quickly, this new company can provide Chinese market-oriented products in a speedy manner, and can increase its local technical support."
Oki has been expanding sales in the rapidly growing Chinese market particularly in LSIs for personal handy-phone systems (PHS), sound generator LSIs for ringer tones for mobile phones, memories for electronic dictionaries and toys, and microcontroller for digital audio equipment. The new company takes charge of planning products, developing and designing hardware and software, and providing technical support. By localizing product development and design for the Chinese market, Oki plans to dig out potential needs for its customers, agilely provide products that suit the Chinese market and provide technical support that will improve customer satisfaction.
Oki currently has a sales office in Hong Kong and Shanghai, and opened offices in Beijing and Shenzhen in June 2004. With the newly established marketing and design subsidiary in China, Oki plans to increase its business in China by establishing a system to enhance its provision of highly value-added products and services to its Chinese customers. Oki plans to achieve 60 billion yen sales from the Chinese business in the fiscal year ending March 2007, a three- fold increase from the fiscal year ending March 2004.
