Oki's µPLAT® Joins UMC's Gold IP™ Program

UMC's Gold IP Program certified uPLAT chip Tokyo, Japan, August 24, 2004 -- Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703) today announced that three of its system LSI integrated platforms from its µPLAT® series have joined the Gold IP™ program(*1) at world leading semiconductor foundry UMC. The certified platforms include two hard IPs(*2): the 0.15µm µPLAT-7B, currently rated as ready-for-production Silver IP status, and the µPLAT-7D with Bronze IP status. The third platform is the soft IP(*3) µPLAT-946, also in Bronze IP status.

"Now that we have joined the Gold IP Program, Oki and UMC customers can easily use µPLAT, an IP with a long, successful track record, to develop their system LSIs," said Akira Kamo, President of the Silicon Solutions Company at Oki Electric. "By adding circuits and IPs to the platform, customers can develop customized system LSIs in a short period of time to take advantage of UMC's state of the art process and manufacturing capabilities."

The certification provides viable solutions to customers who desire a performance improvement from 0.18µm but may not yet be ready to migrate to 0.13µm. By providing a development environment to a wide range of customers, Oki will accelerate the implementation of system LSIs based on µPLAT, and has set a sales target of 34 billion yen for µPLAT-based system LSIs in the fiscal year ending March 2007.
