Oki Electric's Overseas Subsidiary Publishes Environmental & Safety Report 2004
Achieves 10 Environment Burden Reduction Objectives
Tokyo, Japan, August 19, 2004 -- Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703) today announced that Oki (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (OTH), Oki's overseas subsidiary in charge of assembly, test and final inspection for Oki group's semiconductor products, published its Environmental & Safety Report 2004 [PDF 931KB], which will be posted on Oki's website today. (http://www.oki.com/en/eco/2004/04okithai.pdf) Acquiring ISO 14001 in 1998, OTH became the first subsidiary at Oki Electric to publish an environmental report.
"Because semiconductor production can produce environment burdens such as energy consumption, waste and chemical substances, we have been working hard on environment conservation from an early stage," said Katsumi Onaru, President at OTH. "This report compiles OTH's environmental activities and our efforts to contribute to society. I hope this report will raise environmental awareness in our society and enhance employee's awareness to reduce, reuse and recycle wastes to create a green sustainable society.
Based on OTH's analysis of the effect its business has on the environment, it established 10 targets to reduce environment burdens including power consumption, chemical substance consumption, and waste. For the fiscal year ending March 2004, OTH succeeded in achieving all targets. OTH also manages the amount of waste that can cause air and water pollution by setting a target that is stricter than the law in Thailand. In addition, OTH planned to plant trees on premises and to help add trees in Thailand, which has few trees, being in the low country.
[Features of Environmental & Safety Report 2004]
- In order to promote OTH's approach to environment activities, OTH explained its environment policy in the report in English, Thai and Japanese.
- Because wastes and air and water pollution substance have impact on the local environment, OTH disclosed all concrete data in the report.
