Approach by Businesses Toward Environmental Conservationt Controlling and Reducing Chemical Substances

The OKI Group strives for alternative use of chemical substances with less impact on the environment and reduction of their usage, in order to contribute to environmental conservation.

Achievements in Fiscal 2011

The OKI Group has classified chemical substances used for production activities into three groups, “banned,” “restricted” and “self-managed” according to the environmental load of each substance. The amount of chemical substances used in fiscal 2011 was 1,263 tons (level off compared to fiscal 2010). The amount of chemical substances subject to PRTR used was 93.1 tons (a 15 decrease ) while 9.6 tons of chemical substances of the same kind were emitted as waste (a 41% decrease) thanks to the redesigning of the treatment process for substrates.
Until last fiscal year, our calculation of substances subject to PRTR covered only those used in large amounts. Under the revised PRTR system, we have widened the scope of our calculation to include all substances notified to authorities. The data of fiscal 2010 and later were revised to reflect this change.
