1.Water resource conservation

Recycling water (semiconductor factories)
Since semiconductor manufacturing processes require large quantities of water, we installed ultrapure water closed systems in semiconductor factories to recycle water. With this system, 95% or more water is reused, and high purity calcium fluoride (fluorite), a by-product, is reused as a resource.

Recycling surface active agents
For water resource conservation, it is important to decrease substances which deteriorate water quality. Oki Engineering Co.,Ltd developed a system which recycles used surface active agents released in semiconductor manufacturing processes using ceramic filter infiltration. By this method, 90% or more of surface active agents, which were once treated as industrial waste, can be recycled.

2.Green conservation

Decreasing amount of paper to be used
OKI is making efforts to use less paper by managing drawings and slips electronically. In fiscal 1998, 9,700,000 sheets of paper were decreased compared with 1997.

Since its establishment in 1988, Miyagi Oki Electric Co., Ltd has been making efforts to be a green factory site (approx. 250,000 m²). Miyagi Oki Electric Co., Ltd's factory layout has avoided destroying the natural environment, and maintains over 1,500 trees and plants to preserve seasonal beauty, including pine, cherry and azaleas, a practice which is highly evaluated and awarded.
