New environmental protection activity plan and achievements in 1998

In 1993 Oki Electric Industry Co. Ltd. decided on the "Environmental protection activity plan", which is a voluntary plan on environmental activities. With the initial targets of this plan almost met, this plan was reviewed in 1996, and the "New environmental protection activity plan" was decided on, which has become the foundation of OKI's environmental conservation activities.

OKI is actively developing global and local environmental conservation activities in all company operations to provide products which contribute to the advancement of the information society

Activity guidelines

To provide environmentally friendly products by evaluating, in the development and design stage, the environmental effect of all stages, from development to disposal of a product.
To save resources, conserve energy, and decrease waste by using environmentally friendly technologies, in and outside OKI.
To decrease environmental burdens by voluntarily deciding on improvement activity plans in addition to adhering to the environmental regulations of the national and local governments.
To continuously improve the system and achievements by properly maintaining the PDCA of the environmental management system.
To develop environmental conservation activities for the OKI group, to include affiliated companies in and outside Japan.

Product recycling By 2000 recycling ratio of major products is increased 30% from 1995 levels. Recycle ratio of major products increased 18.3% from 1995 levels.

Factory waste reduction By 2000 factory waste (general waste + industrial waste) of major production bases is decreased 30% from 1995 levels. Factory waste decreased 54% from 1995 levels. All goals achieved. This data includes affiliated companies in semiconductor manufacturing.

ISO 14001 authorization ISO 14001 authorization is acquired at major production bases of OKI Group, inside and outside Japan, by end of 1998.
