Greetings

Serious work on environmental problems, such as global warming and waste treatment, and the shift in society to one that is more environmentally harmonious, is an issue common to all of humanity.

OKI has been working on environmental activities at the company scale,starting with pollution prevention activities in 1970. For activities on global environmental problems, we settled on an "environmental protection activity plan" in 1993 as our first activity,then we reviewed this plan and settled on a "new environmental protection activity plan" as the second activity in 1996, and have continued to implement this plan along with our affiliated companies.From this year on, we will actively conduct new environmental protection activities under the title "OKI Eco Plan 21", by positioning our efforts on environmental problems as an important theme of company management, assuming more social responsibilities.

As a part of this plan, we decided to publish an annual environmental report to disclose OKI's efforts on the environment. The report published at this time concerns the results of the environmental efforts of OKI and our major affiliated production companies in 1998. This report will be available on the Internet so that more people will understand OKI's efforts on the environment.

In 1998 we completed the acquisition of ISO14001 certification for major production bases, and accelerated reuse and recycling activities to decrease industrial waste. Results are way ahead of initial goals.

The environmental philosophy of OKI is to "actively develop global and local environmental conservation activities in all company operations, to provide products which contribute to the advancement of the information society". Based on this philosophy, we will make yet more efforts than in the past in all business activity areas, from R&D to disposal and recycling, so that a sound earth will be handed down to our precious children.
